How Career Intelligence Works Where AI is used and what that means for you
Career Intelligence helps you organise your career information, understand opportunities and create career materials. It uses a combination of structured rules, scoring and generative AI. Its outputs are suggestions for you to review. They are not employer decisions, promises of an outcome or professional advice.
1 What Career Intelligence means Career Intelligence is the name we use for automated and AI-assisted features in Career Navigators. Different features work in different ways. Some retrieve or organise information. Some apply defined scoring rules. Others use generative AI to draft, summarise, explain or suggest content. An automated result is therefore not always an AI opinion. For example, an opportunity match can combine structured comparisons against your stated preferences with an AI-assisted explanation. The explanation may make the result easier to understand, but it does not turn the score into a prediction of what an employer will decide.
2 The main points • You remain in control of whether to use, edit, save, export, publish or share an AI-assisted output. • Career Intelligence may make mistakes, overlook context, reproduce bias or rely on incomplete or outdated information. • A match score describes fit against the information and criteria available to Career Navigators. It is not the probability of receiving an interview or job offer. • Career Navigators does not make recruitment, admission or employment decisions for employers, universities or other organisations. • We do not use identifiable user content to train a general-purpose AI model unless the user separately and affirmatively opts in. • Significant Career Communities moderation sanctions are made or reviewed by authorised people and are not imposed solely by AI.
3 Where Career Intelligence is used The table explains the principal current and planned launch uses. Features may vary by plan, territory and release stage. Feature How it helps Information it may use What this means for you Career Memory and profile Extracts, organises or suggests skills, experience, achievements, interests and goals from information you provide. Profile fields, CVs, notes, prompts, imported material and your corrections. Review extracted facts and remove duplication. Career Memory should reflect evidence you recognise as accurate. Opportunity search and matching Compares opportunities with your profile and preferences, ranks results and may explain strengths, gaps or trade-offs. Role interests, goals, experience, skills, achievements, education, location, seniority, work preferences, work authorisation and vacancy information. The score reflects configured factors and available evidence. It is not an employer assessment or a prediction of success. CV and profile tools Drafts, rewrites or tailors content for a role using relevant evidence from Career Memory and the selected opportunity. Your verified career information, existing CV or profile content, the vacancy and your instructions. Check every claim. The system is designed to ground drafts in your information, but safeguards cannot guarantee that an error will never occur. Cover letters and application content Creates a first draft or suggests how to present relevant experience and motivation. Career Memory, the opportunity, employer information available to the Service and your prompt. Edit the draft into your own voice. Confirm facts, names, dates and employer requirements before submitting. Interview preparation Suggests likely themes or questions, prepares practice material and may provide feedback on answers. The opportunity, employer information, your career evidence, goals and practice responses. It does not know an employer's confidential interview plan. Treat questions and feedback as preparation, not inside information. Career guidance and development Suggests roles, skills to develop, next steps or ways to describe transferable experience. Your goals, preferences, career history, interactions and the context you choose to provide. Suggestions may not fit your circumstances. Verify high-impact legal, immigration, financial, medical or education matters with a qualified source. Career Communities Where available and invoked, helps draft, summarise or communicate. Automated signals may also support safety and misuse review. The content you choose for the feature and, for a report or safety issue, relevant reported content and context. We do not routinely read private messages. AI does not impose significant moderation sanctions on its own at launch.
4 How opportunity matching works Opportunity matching uses information from your Career Match Profile and the opportunity. The matching process may consider role relevance, career goals, experience, direct and transferable skills, location, seniority, achievements, education, work preferences and work authorisation. An explicit search choice can override a stored preference for that search. The system applies structured weights and relevance rules. It can reduce a score when an opportunity conflicts with a stated preference and avoid applying a factor when the underlying evidence is not relevant. AI may help interpret text, identify comparable skills or explain the result, while defined scoring logic controls the match calculation. A confidence label indicates how much suitable evidence was available for the assessment. It does not express confidence that you will be hired. Provider-neutrality checks are intended to prevent the source of a vacancy from determining its ranking, but differences in the completeness and quality of source data can still affect results. 5 What happens when generative AI is used
- You request a feature or the Service identifies that an AI-assisted step is needed to provide it.
- Career Navigators selects the information relevant to that task, such as chosen Career Memory evidence, a vacancy or the text you entered.
- The necessary context and instructions are sent to a contracted AI processing provider through the Service's AI infrastructure.
- The provider produces a response. Career Navigators may apply formatting, validation, safety checks or factual-grounding checks before showing it to you.
- You decide whether to edit, save, discard, export or share the result. Some outputs may be stored with your account so the requested feature works and you can return to them. The model and provider used for a task may change as the Service develops. We assess providers and use contractual and technical controls appropriate to their role. The Privacy Policy explains how personal information is shared, retained and transferred.
6 Information Career Intelligence can use Depending on the feature, Career Intelligence may use account information, Career Memory, profile fields, documents, prompts, feedback, saved outputs, opportunity data and the Community content selected for the requested feature. It may also use information from connected or third-party services when you have asked to use that information. We aim to send only the context needed for the task. Do not enter passwords, payment-card details, identity documents, confidential employer material or sensitive information about yourself or another person unless the feature clearly requires it and you have a lawful reason to provide it. Free-text prompts can reveal more than you intend.
7 Accuracy and limitations Generative AI predicts plausible content from patterns in data. It does not independently know whether a statement is true. It can invent facts, misunderstand context, give generic advice, repeat bias or present uncertain information confidently. Retrieval and scoring systems can also be affected by incomplete profiles, stale vacancies, ambiguous wording and differences between data sources. Before relying on an output: • check qualifications, roles, dates, achievements, employers and other factual claims • confirm vacancy details, deadlines, salary, location, eligibility, sponsorship and application instructions with the original source • make sure a CV, letter, answer or Community post is truthful, appropriate and written in a voice you are willing to stand behind • seek qualified advice where a decision depends on law, immigration, finance, health or another regulated field
8 User control and human review Career Intelligence supports your judgement. It does not decide whether an employer, university or other organisation accepts you. Career Navigators does not use the Service to make a solely automated decision that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning you unless a separate feature clearly explains a different process and the rights available before it begins. In Career Communities, automated tools may help identify safety signals, organise reports or assist authorised reviewers. Significant sanctions are made or reviewed by authorised people. Where appropriate, a user can request review of a significant moderation decision. You can improve an output by correcting Career Memory, changing your preferences, adding relevant evidence, revising the prompt or discarding the result. Where account controls allow, you can also delete saved content or request the privacy rights described in the Privacy Policy.
9 Responsible use You are responsible for reviewing AI-assisted content before using or sharing it. Do not use Career Intelligence to invent experience, impersonate someone, deceive an employer, disclose information without authority or make a high-impact decision about another person solely from an AI output. The Acceptable Use Policy and Community Guidelines contain the fuller rules. Career Navigators is for users aged 16 or over. Users aged 16 or 17 receive additional safeguards. AI output should not be used to pressure a younger user to disclose personal information or move a conversation to a less protected channel.
10 Questions corrections and complaints If an output appears inaccurate, unfair, unsafe or based on the wrong information, use any available feedback or reporting control or email support@career-navigators.com. Include the feature used, what you expected, what happened and the relevant output. Do not send passwords or unnecessary sensitive information. For questions about personal information, retention or privacy rights, refer to the Career Navigators Privacy Policy. Contractual limits and user responsibilities are described in the applicable Terms. The Acceptable Use Policy and Community Guidelines explain prohibited uses and Community behaviour.
11 Changes to Career Intelligence Career Intelligence will change as features, models, providers and safeguards develop. We will update this document when a material change affects where AI is used, the information involved, user control or the role of human review. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent where applicable law requires it.
